Most of you here know that I work at my local Walmart and how much I "like" it sometimes. There is a heavy does of sarcasm there, on an average day I dont hate my life.
Between the new and interesting ways that the people who load our trucks try to kill me and the crazy people of Walmart that I have to serve every single day has something interesting or amazing happens.
For someone who has never experienced this stuff some of the things that I will share will certainly be extremely amazing and hopefully amusing. You dont appreciate things for what they are until you experience them your self and that was certainly the case with me. I never appreciated the fact that I could go into a grocery store and get just about anything that I wanted. I never thought about the process behind getting it all on the shelf for me to buy, working in the grocery department at Walmart has given me a greater appreciation for it all.
Maybe hearing all of the terrible things will enlighten some and provide a great deal of entertainment.
I will say that the number one thing that I will be sharing will be the super amusing loads on out trucks that we get. I cannot remember a single week where I have not had to pick up a 2,000 pound pallet that fell over because it was stacked and loaded poorly. This stuff happens at least once a week. I will of course provide a picture to go along with it so that everyone can gain a greater appreciation for the situation.

WE will get this whole thing started with a customer centered story which happened today.
I had about 45 minutes left on my shift and I was finishing up taking all of the freight that we got on our truck to the floor in preperation for 3rd shift to come in and stock it all. I had just dropped off a pallet and was returning to the backroom to get another one when a lady stopped me.
Usually customers are oblivious to what I am doing and ask me where things are but this time was different. This lady had stopped me to inform me that she had just seen a little boy pee on the floor in the beer aisle. "Okay, I will take care of it" I say as I start going to the back to get a bucket and mop so that I could clean it up.
I guess that wasnt good enough for her because before I even took three steps she stopped me again and was complained that I wasnt going to do anything about it. I guess me saying that I would take care of it was not going to cut it for her, or maybe I was not doing what she wanted me to.
So i figured she wanted me to tell the parent what I had happened. I dont know why it had to be me to do this since she has a mouth and could clearly talk, but I still did it anyway. I approached the father of the boy and told him what she said. I did not see anything so I told him " A customer told me that your son peed on the floor in the beer isle" After I told him he reprimanded his child and went on his way. I thought that the situation had been resolved.
I was wrong about that because she was still not satisfied with the handling of the situation and I guess she wanted something more severe than what had happened to be done. Maybe she wanted the family to be kicked out of the store, I dont know. She then went off on a little rant saying "How can I trust that my food is safe? I wont shop here anymore! Where is a manager?"
I told her I would go see if I could find a manager. I looked high and low and could not find a manager and when I came back to were I left her to tell her to go to customer service to complain she was gone. So I went back to work, she had interrupted me in the middle of something and I had to finish
I am back out with another pallet and I see a manager walking around the beer aisle saying "I dont see anything" into his radio. It is safe to assume that the lady had gone to customer service like I was going to tell her to do. I told the manager that I had already cleaned it up and was then asked about what happened. I told him I didnt see anything happen. Apparently she had told him that the father had told both of his boys to pee in the beer aisle which had escalated quickly from when she initially told me that one of the boys had done it.
I dont have a definite end to this story since I dont know how the manager dealt with the situation but I will find out when I am at work tomorrow. I am sure that it will be tons of fun to hear.
This is the reason that I dont like dealing with customers. They are annoying as hell and completely self centered. The whole self centerdness is a side effect of the "THe customer is always right" mantra of customer service. The customer is not right all of the time.

^ I've experienced this kind of customer attitude before as well, not exactly the same situation. But they really like to blow things up of proposition, to the extent I don't know what is in it for them in term of benefit.
There is not saint in the world, nobody complain for the sake of making the world a better place. They are looking at benefits for themselves, short term or long term. Normally a discount, free gift will be able to please them regardless what kind of situations they complained about.
I'm not sure the lady in your situation cares about the pee, or the food safety, or whether the father beat the kid. It seems she wanted to spin things to her favor, like food is not safe, so how are you going to convince me to come back to shop....etc.
Customers ain't always right, but they also don't always listen to valid reasonings.
Like for example if something is out of stock, they will keep nagging about what didn't it get stock up, how do you run a business...etc. When there is similar range of products beside it, and supplier don't have stock of what they wanted. They can go as far as to spit in your face with their reasoning that its your store and your problem, not their.
Customer services/Retails always get blame for everything.

I have had people complain about things being out of stock as well.
Once time there was a lady who was looking for a certain kind of chips which we didnt have. I looked in the aisle for them since our chip aisle is pretty disorganized and I looked in the back to see if we had any back there. I told her that we didnt have any more. Then she told me that she was at the store the day before and bought all of the chips that she was looking for. So she bought everything that we had in that certain item and then expected it to be back in stock the next day. I understand why she assumes that but I know that it takes about five days for something to arrive at the store when we place an order for it so I know that her expectations are unreasonable.
In the end I told her that since we were out we had placed an order to replenish the item and it would be here in about five days.
Poeple also have unreaslistic expectations for how things should work in a store. They obviously dont know what goes on behind the scenes, they just see all of the products on display.

Customers (most of the time) will only think for their own conveniences, most of the time they do know that real reality and their delusional world doesn't run in line. But still because they think they are the one spending to provide for the paychecks of the staffs no matter how petty amount that it, they suddenly gain the right to demand in stores.
They just preferred the best situation for them, for example sometimes certain suppliers give special packages or discount on their products (mostly to clear stocks). And those are run by while stock lasted, yet there are people who expect offers to last forever and can stand around and debate why they should be entitled to the same offer based on some random fact that they saw this advert weeks ago.

lol I'll make sure to throw all the crazy sh1t I find about that place here You should. This is not really crazy but it is not normal A older guy bought 12 24pks of Natural Ice, I guess he was having a bunch of guys over to move some stuff for him. He has a bad back so I helped him load a cart and take it out to his car. He tipped me $1 for my effort. It was a bit weird that he bought so much cheap beer but he tipped me a single dollar which made it even more weird, he might as well of just kept it. I ended up getting a coke from a vending machine in the break room with that dollar.

haha oh god.. Natty Ice... I've had many horrendous nights on that junk. That is the frat boy beer of choice In my English class one semester there were former Army guys getting their subsidized education and one day they were complaining about how PBR costs so much now since it got popular. I guess that was their cheap beer of choice back when it was too hipster for the hipsters.

Nothing exciting from work this time. Just 3094lbs of groceries that I had to manually move. Here is what I estimate to be 100lbs of Ramen looks like on a cart. There is double what you see there since there is case on the other side of the cart. I think that this is the most Ramen that I can remember ever getting.

Yesterday after going to the back to look for something for a customer I come out to see her yelling into the dairy cooler though the milk racks to see if there was anybody back there.
She had her grandmother holding the door open as she had her head stuck right up to the racks and was yelling in asking if there was anybody in there. She wanted something that was on the bottom shelf but was pushed to the back and since she was a rather large person she couldnt get down low enough to grab what she wanted.
It was quite an interesting sight.

^ Thats pretty interesting...
Your side must be very understaffed for customers to be trying all ways to call for help.
Just wondering, doesn't the bottom rack always place the most unpopular stuffs?

We arent really understaffed, at the time there were two people working in that department. One of them barely understands English so he would not be much of a help and the other guy was stocking eggs nearby. It wasnt like there was nobody there to help her. About a month ago I was the only sales associate covering the entire Grocery department, that does not include dairy, meat, frozen foods, and produce though. I dont know if that is actually taken into consideration when they put things on the shelf. Everything is organized down to the type of food and the brand name that is on it. It has to be taken into account though since everything at chest height gets bought a lot more that the bottom shelf when we put things on features.

Well maybe some people just like to shout/scream for help Yup normally merchandizer always value shelving that is eye-level as the prime location, and normally products that goes there are the better deals both for the consumers and the company. Its like running an ad on the golden time slot. Normally the bottom is for slow selling stuffs cos its both out of sight for consumers and people stocking up.

In the part of the store that I work we are selling food so I dont know how much that all applies though. People need what they need and they will look everywhere to find it. It is true that the more popular things are higher up but that cannot always be done.
