Im not really the type of person to get hyped about an OST and I am not getting hyped for this one. I will be keeping an eye out for it though.
Although since I believe that I will end up watching this show sometime soon I wont have to look that hard

^ Well OST do have great stuffs like Suzy's Don’t Forget Me from Gu Family Book OST. I like Jeon Woo Chi's OST release as well.
Of cos, OST will have more appeal for those watching the drama as it enhanced the favor of it.

The one that I remember is the song that G.NA did for Playful Kiss. I dont know how many times the song was played during the series but I only realized that it was G.NA until the last few episodes. I didnt look it up or anything, I just knew that it was her song. I am sure that the artists performing in the OST is a way to get a few more people to watch the show as well.

^ On an certain extent yes, OST is definitely use as a marketing means to promote the songs.
But on the other hand, OST have been so successful in Kpop now that they have their own K-chart. And most of the OST are actually charting as good as those B-list artists.
While they used to release as one OST album, now its so successful that they break it into several digital releases with all various collaborations. Even Gayoon is a regular at OST.

The one thing that I like most of all about the OST songs is that sometimes they are a different from what the artist does. I am not really into the songs that are heavy with emotion but it is nice to hear them for a change of pace from what I am used to hearing.
I really think that they are so successful because of the star power behind them. The songs that are done by well know performers are taken seriously so they can stand alone as good songs. Every song can really but when you look at the track listing for a soundtrack there are only a couple songs that were perforemed by popular people. The rest were written and composed by the same person and performed by the same person. Those songs dont do so well but they are just meant to provide some atmosphere for the video.

Well what's a better chance for singers to try out different genre or approach than doing an OST, no impact on their solo/group career, and its backed by drama fans supporting it. Chances of being accepted is far greater than attempting the same stuffs as their own releases.
I've been listening to songs written/composed/performed heavily with emotion all my life, so I'm more inclined to enjoy OSTs.
There gotta be a balance of popular collaborations, and some to maintain the feel of the OSTs. But situations is increasing better as with every passing years since 2010, non-idols' sales and supports have raised over idols'. Generic electronic dance music's era have come and pass, now at least in Korean, the demand for sentimental music is increasing.
